Our Commitment to Your Child's Safety and Health at Camp

Our Commitment to Your Child’s Health and Safety at Camp

This summer at Hume New England will look different than the past as we work to assure the safety of everyone attending camp and follow all national and state guidelines. We are still awaiting final guidance from the State of Massachusetts and will adjust accordingly.

Our staff is doing everything possible to prevent the spread of illness at camp, while ensuring a fun summer where young people have the opportunity to encounter Christ in a close and personal way.

Here is a brief overview of what this year’s experience will include to ensure everyone’s safety. Further details and updates will be provided to churches and camper families prior to camp.

Arrival and Check-In

  • Each family or church will be notified in advance of their check-in location and procedures. Arrival and check-in locations will be clearly marked.
  • Campers and counselors are requested to self-quarantine for 14 days prior to coming to camp.
  • Hands must be washed and/or sanitized before entering the check-in area.
  • During check-in, only one adult can accompany campers, and face-coverings will be required for everyone.
  • All campers and counselors will be screened for contagious diseases, including a non-contact body temperature reading. The nurse will collect camper health screenings and medications.

During Camp

  • Each day, everyone will be screened for temperature and other symptoms on the way into breakfast and again in the evening. If there are signs of possible infection, the person will be further evaluated by our medical staff. We have isolation rooms available for use when necessary.
  • All frequently-touched items in common areas will be cleaned and sanitized throughout the day. Before each week of camp, all living spaces will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized in preparation for the next group of campers.
  • More signs, hand-washing stations, and hand-sanitizing stations have been added throughout the property.
  • Spacing has been increased as required between tables in the Dining Hall, chairs in chapel, and beds in camper housing.
  • Everyone will wear masks or cloth face-coverings if they are likely to be closer than 6 feet to other people who are not within their cabin group.
  • If anyone attending camp tests positive for COVID-19, we will report the case to our local Board of Health, and will also notify families of campers who were at camp at the same time, while maintaining confidentiality of the person who was diagnosed.

What We Request of Parents

  • If your child is showing signs of illness such as running a temperature, any gastrointestinal symptoms, difficulty breathing, or cold symptoms such as nasal drainage and/or coughing/sneezing, please keep your child home.
  • If your child has had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days, please keep them home.
  • Teach your camper to sneeze/cough in his/her sleeve and to wash his/her hands often while at camp, especially before eating and after toileting.
  • Instruct your child how to wear face-coverings correctly, how to use the type you are providing, and when to change them. Please send enough face coverings to wear throughout the week, and switch when they become wet or soiled.
  • If a camper becomes ill with any type of communicable disease, they will be separated from the rest of the camp population, and parents will be asked to arrange for their child to be transported home the same day, ideally within two hours.
  • If your child tests positive for COVID-19 within two weeks after attending camp, please contact camp administration. We will maintain confidentiality as we notify other families of a positive test result, and advise their campers to self-quarantine for 14 days.

FAQ

Our Summer Camp is designed to provide an epic, high-energy, life-changing program for youth groups of all sizes. We accomplish this not only through traditional programming – speakers, bands, campfires, and activities – but also through creative themes, full-production films, stage theatrics, innovative recreation and dynamic worship.

IMPORTANT
Note:
Most online mapping services will suggest you turn onto Chestnut Hill Rd. from MA-23.
We recommend you do not take this route because it is steep, unstable, and closed during the winter.

Bring any prescribed medications in the original containers and make sure they are listed on the medical section of your online account.
